Setting Up Call Detection

Automatic Call Detection

Debrief.AI can automatically prompt you to record a debrief after phone calls end. This is one of the most powerful features for building a consistent debriefing habit.

How It Works

When you finish a phone call, Debrief.AI sends a notification asking if you'd like to record a debrief about that conversation. No manual action required.

Enabling Call Detection

  1. Open Settings - Tap the gear icon in the app
  2. Find "Call Detection" - Scroll to the Notifications section
  3. Toggle ON - Enable the call detection feature
  4. Grant Permissions - Allow the app to detect when calls end

Required Permissions

PermissionWhy It's Needed
Phone StateTo detect when calls end
NotificationsTo send you the debrief prompt
Background App RefreshTo work even when app is closed

Customizing Prompts

You can customize when prompts appear:

  • All calls - Prompt after every phone call
  • Unknown numbers only - Only prompt for numbers not in contacts
  • Contacts only - Only prompt for saved contacts
  • Favorites only - Only prompt for starred contacts

Troubleshooting

If call detection isn't working:

  1. ✅ Check that permissions are granted in iOS Settings
  2. ✅ Ensure notifications are enabled for Debrief.AI
  3. ✅ Restart the app after changing permissions
  4. ✅ Make sure Background App Refresh is ON

⚠️ Privacy Note: Debrief.AI only detects when calls end — we never listen to or record your actual phone calls. Your call audio is completely private.
